You had one mission and one mission alone. If this mission wasn’t completed, you would hate yourself for a lifetime. It was your goal.

You jumped through the forest, so light on your toes no one could here you. You were listening in on conversations, and it turned out your old friend Shikamaru was coming back from a mission, and being a good friend of Team 10’s, you decided to pull the greatest prank yet: wait until they’re sleeping, draw on their faces with permanent paint, then pour maple syrup all over them, so that when they awoke, they would be sticky, painted, and pretty cranky. You were ready for the greatest laugh of your life.

~Tiiiiime skip~

You eventually found the camp, around twilight. Everyone was getting ready for sleep. First, you started coloring their faces. Everyone got a different mustache, different gang sign, and different song lyrics all over their arms and legs that weren’t covered. Next, your favorite part, you started pouring bucket after bucket of maple syrup on everybody, ever so careful not to wake them. You chuckled. “This is gonna be great!” you whispered to yourself.

After you finished, you retired to a tree right above where Shikamaru was sleeping. “I can’t wait to hear their screams,” you whispered again.

~The next morning!~

You awoke to shouts below you. Your trick had been a success! Shikamaru was just waking up, now all you had to do was wait for it… wait for it…

Wait for it…

Scream.

You laughed so hard, everyone had heard you. Suddenly, you started rocking. Soon, you were plummeting several feet onto Shikamaru’s maple-syrupy body. “Wha-oooh-GREEAAT!” You screamed on your way down.

You fell straight onto him. “Ow, god, who the-” Shikamaru’s eyes met your embarrassed (e/c) as a blush reached all the way around your face.

“(N-name)?! What are you…”

You burst out laughing. “You just got seriously pranked! All of you did!”

“What’s so funny? My hair’s all sticky now!” Ino complained.

Choji licked his fingers. “Where did you get this stuff anyway?”

Asuma was still fast asleep, cigarette hanging out of his mouth. “I heard you were coming home, and I thought you might need a welcoming party!” You said happily, still stuck against his warm chest. A blush sweeped across Shikamaru’s face.

“Well, it’s certainly a… different welcoming party. I knew you always had tricks up your sleeve. But I really wasn't expecting this.”

“Always expect the unexpected right?”

“Right.”

“Just like this,” you said as you wrapped your arms around his neck. You kissed him lightly on the lips.

Shikamaru was as red as a cherry. “Totally unexpected.”
